Big lessons to carry into 2023.

It's my first day back at it and my ‘office’ is anything but stationary. I'm sitting window side on an 8 hour Amtrak train down the Hudson river to NYC. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining - this is certainly an indicative of how the rest of my 2023 is looking. Motion, adapting and going with the flow. (Ha! That last ones a big challenge for me 😅)

I spent this weekend just gone at the snowy mountain of Stowe, where I learnt how to properly ski for the first time. And you know what? I bloody loved every minute of it.

Going into the weekend, I was extremely nervous and resistant. I'd attempted skiing once before and it ended in tears, pain and what you could almost call an adult-tantrum. On that occasion, I'd not taken a lesson, was thrown in the deep end (a blue run deep), and I ate a sh*t ton of snow.

This time was different. I made the decision to invest [a small fortune] into a lesson.

So, at 9am, my partner bid me adieu as I awkwardly waddled my way over to the beginners zone. Smiley Heidi the instructor started us off with ground work, then moved us on to the magic carpet, and by midday we were on the lift up to out first green run.

I made it all the way down without even a fall. And my partner was waiting at the bottom to witness my beaming happy face. I felt on top of the world for accomplishing something completely new.

So my big lessons from this weekend, which I'm carrying through with me into business in 2023:

  1. Never stop learning

  2. Investing in education is almost always worth it

  3. Breaking out of your comfort zone has big rewards

  4. Great things come from doing the ground work

What are your big lessons that you’ll be carrying into the new year?
